Goguen has stellar record of growing patient-focused, national clinical platforms
HOUSTON – November 15, 2016 – After a decade of success as the nation’s first, largest and most experienced operator of micro-hospitals, Emerus Holdings Inc. has announced the appointment of Craig Goguen as Chief Executive Officer, effective, Nov. 7.
Goguen’s experience as a CEO and leader of high-growth, multi-state healthcare companies further enhances Emerus’ position as the premier partner of choice for national healthcare systems desiring to expand their healthcare offerings.
Since its founding in 2006, Emerus has grown from a small group of entrepreneurial physicians operating a single emergency room to a national force in healthcare, with more than 1,500 employees and 21 hospitals in operation by year-end. Having signed four new joint venture partnerships with leading hospital systems in the last quarter alone, Emerus is positioned for enormous growth and will continue to be the national leader in micro-hospital partnerships.
“The board of directors and the Emerus family are honored to have such an experienced and successful leader join the organization,” said Dr. Toby Hamilton, founding CEO and board member of Emerus Holdings Inc. “Craig has distinguished himself as a methodical, employee-centric leader with the ability to drive scalable, national growth.” Hamilton will continue to serve on the Emerus board and manage innovation and charitable initiatives on behalf of the company.
Most recently, Goguen served as president and CEO of DSI Renal Inc., a leading provider of dialysis services with over 100 facilities across 22 states, serving more than 7,500 patients. During his four and a half years with DSI, Goguen is credited with leading multiple national growth initiatives and overseeing the successful 2015 merger of U.S. Renal Care Inc. and DSI, creating one of the nation’s largest dialysis service providers. From 2007 to 2010, Goguen was the COO of Odyssey HealthCare Inc., a leading provider of hospice services in the U.S. In this role, he grew revenue from $400 million to $800 million, creating the largest hospice company in the United States. Goguen also spent over 10 years at DaVita Inc., helping to build the organization to a Fortune 500® company that consistently delivers leading clinical outcomes for its patients.
“It is such an honor to join an organization so strongly positioned on the cutting edge of healthcare delivery,” said Goguen. “Emerus’ proven business strategy, patient-centric culture and operational acumen have resulted in strong growth and positioned the organization for further national expansion.”
Through multiple national joint venture partnerships, Emerus develops and manages comprehensive acute care hospitals designed to deliver high-quality, innovative and empathetic care in a smaller footprint, neighborhood setting.
“We are pleased to have a great leader with a stellar track record of growing companies and improving clinical outcomes join the Emerus team,” said D. Scott Mackesy, Emerus board member and co-head of Welsh, Carson, Anderson and Stowe’s healthcare industry investment practice. “Craig is the ideal leader to build on the tremendous momentum created by the Emerus team and its innovative care model.”
