Emerus Health Offers Free Flu Shots

HOUSTON – Oct. 7, 2015 – Emerus Health is giving back to the communities it serves by providing more than 5,200 doses of flu vaccine, valued at $50,000, at its micro hospital facilities in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston.

Emerus’ free flu shot campaign began this week. The flu shots will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

“Each year, 5 to 15 percent of Americans are affected by the influenza virus, approximately 226,000 are hospitalized, and more than 36,000 die from influenza and related complications,” said Dr. Toby Hamilton, CEO of Emerus. “As a hospital system focused on providing high-quality community and patient-centered care, we are pleased to offer this service to help individuals and their families stay healthy without having to worry about the cost of this preventive care.”

Emerus is providing the free flu shots at its micro hospitals in Tomball and Sugar Land (Houston), as well as at the locations of many of its partner hospital facilities: Baptist Emergency Hospital, Overlook and Hausman (San Antonio); BaylorScott&White Emergency Medical Center, Cedar Park (Austin); and Baylor Emergency Medical Centers, Keller, Mansfield and Colleyville (Dallas).

“We hope people will visit our facilities, get to know our staff and participate in our flu shot campaign,” said May Woo, Regional Pharmacist for Emerus. “It’s important to get a flu shot – not just for yourself, but for the people around you.”
