Reflecting On Our Core Values
As we grow and expand our workforce, we are introducing hundreds of new people to the Emerus culture. Those of you who have been with us from the beginning, in 2006, know a key reason the founding doctors started Emerus was because we were disappointed by some of the things we were seeing in health care.
The immense, immovable hospital systems and insurance companies were set up to win, and compassionate, efficient medical care had been on the losing side for a very long time.
As we grow to be bigger and better, it’s important to remember how we began and how that influences what we represent as an organization.
Emerus developed with a David vs. Goliath vision, one in which patient care became more important than the bottom line. The founding doctors never set out to create an emergency room empire, or even a health care business with multiple locations. Our only goal had been to rise above inefficient systems in ailing emergency rooms to create an environment that allowed health professionals to treat patients with compassion and respect.
We believed, then and now, that attention to employee satisfaction and a commitment to offering the quality of care we would expect and demand for our own families would lead to health care workers and patients who would be happier and more fulfilled. Time has proven us right.
Whether you’ve been with us for 10 years or 10 days, I urge you to embrace our core values — not just in the workplace, but in your daily lives. These ideals are the backbone of our company, and they are one of the key reasons established health care brands want to partner with us.
The Emerus team has always been exceptional, and that is especially true today, as we continue to rapidly expand into communities across the nation. Dr. Toby Hamilton, CEO of Emerus, was given the only one-on-one meeting with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi at the recent Texas Tribune Festival in Austin. Hamilton explained Emerus’ concept of micro-hospitals and discussed national health care issues.
