RN – Baptist Emergency Hospital at Overlook
How long have you worked here?
I was hired on Nov. 14, 2012.
Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
In college, I worked at a toy store called Noodle Kadoodle (at least the name is interesting) and was also a part-time intramural volleyball referee at UTSA.
What is your proudest moment or experience treating our patients?
A few years ago, I had a patient who was a “real” Santa Claus. When I went in to work a few weeks after his discharge, there was an envelope with my name on it at the front desk. Inside, there was a note from “Santa” saying how well he was doing and how much he appreciated the care he’d received. There was also a stamp with a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Claus (Mrs. Claus had passed away) for me to remember him by – I still have the note and the stamp in my binder. When I look at it, I can’t help but smile. It makes me so happy to think that I was able to play a role in making his hospital stay pleasant and memorable.
What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
Visit New Zealand/Australia to snorkel along the Great Barrier Reef, take an Alaskan cruise and own a vacation home in Whistler, BC.
What is your hidden talent, hobby or greatest interest outside of work?
My hobbies are running and gardening. I also enjoy fishing, snow skiing and snowboarding. My greatest interest is spending time with my husband and our son, who plays Select Baseball. We spend many weekends at the baseball field cheering him on, especially around this time of year.
What are your top 3 life highlights?
Getting married in Las Vegas, the birth of our son and watching my color-blind father’s reaction to putting on a pair of Enchroma glasses and seeing color for the first time.
What is your dream vacation?
Skiing and snowboarding in Whistler, BC, Canada. We’ve been there twice, and I absolutely love it!
If you could be anyone from any time period, who would it be and why?
I think I’d like to be myself during the time Galileo invented the telescope, and be able to hangout with him while looking at the night sky.
Favorite national observance/why?
The Fourth of July, because who wouldn’t be excited to celebrate our independence?! Plus, it involves fireworks and BBQ!
Complete this sentence about what your hospital brings to the community, or what you love about your hospital:
My hospital is full of caring, compassionate individuals. We all came from different hospitals in what we felt were less than ideal situations and truly appreciate what we have here. We work so well together, and are able to have fun in the process. We realize that it’s not fun for the patients who come to the ED, or those who have to be admitted, so we try to make the experience as pleasurable as possible.
