RN – Baylor Emergency Medical Centers at Keller
How long have you worked here, and what is your role?
I have worked at Baylor EMC Keller for approximately 2.5 years, and was part of the team that opened the facility. Initially, I worked nights as an inpatient nurse, but I now work dayshift in the ER with some of the most amazing people!
Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I worked as a travel nurse early in my career and absolutely loved it! My favorite places to work were Hawaii and St. Croix, USVI.
What is your proudest moment or experience treating our patients?
A few months ago, a previous patient’s wife came in for treatment and recognized me immediately. She stated her husband was recovering from treatment of his renal cancer, and I was his nurse when Dr. Bennetsen delivered the news that something looked suspicious on the CT scan that was completed that day. She thanked me a million times over for being so compassionate and helpful, and for talking them through the initial raw emotions of the unknown. Hearing that he is doing well and that we made their experience at our facility unforgettable was priceless.
What is your hidden talent, hobby or greatest interest outside of work?
I can ‘gleek’ on demand. If you don’t know what gleeking is, you’ll have to Google it. I also enjoy spending time with my 4-year-old boy and scuba diving every chance I get (though it has been awhile).
What are your top 3 life highlights?
The first three that come to mind are the birth of my only son, my wedding in St. Lucia and graduating with my BSN this May!
What is your dream vacation?
Greece.
Favorite national observance/why?
Fourth of July is my favorite holiday because it’s Independence Day! l love what the holiday represents, and that people celebrate in unity with pride.
Favorite medicine-based movie or show/why?
“Patch Adams.” The movie delivers a wonderful message about giving and treating patients holistically. Adams believes “the health of an individual cannot be separated from the health of the family, community and the world.”
