Danielle Everett

Hospital Administrator –
Baylor Emergency Medical Centers at Rockwall/Murphy

How long have you worked here?
I have worked at Baylor Emergency Medical Centers for 2.5 years.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I’ve been an RN since I was 20 years old, so most of my experience has been in the health care industry. I’ve worked in emergency departments, psychiatric settings, pediatrics and nursing management. I hold a legal nurse consultant license, and would have to say my experience with this aspect of nursing has been the most interesting and challenging, by far.

What is your proudest moment or experience treating our patients?
Some of my most memorable moments center on helping the less fortunate individuals in the community. We have many homeless patients who come into both of our hospitals. Due to our smaller campus setting, we are able to go the extra mile for all patients. We make sure that a shower, food, clothes and resources are provided to help them with not only their medical condition, but also with basic needs and dignity, as well. I love this aspect of my job and work environment.

What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?
I would love to take a year or two off and travel the world, exploring architecture and other cultures. I would also love to learn how to play an instrument – possibly the piano or guitar. My retirement dream would be to own and operate a winery.

What is your hidden talent, hobby or greatest interest outside of work?
I’ve been told that I can dance really well but, I also love boxing and wrestling. I regularly attend classes for all of these.

What are your top 3 life highlights?
My three children, of course!

What is your dream vacation?
On a secluded beach with no phones, no access to email, no children and a dedicated staff tending to my every need.

Favorite national observance/why?
My two favorite holidays are Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick’s Day.
I am not Hispanic or Irish, but I love the idea of holidays that don’t traditionally require purchasing gifts or preparing a big meal to celebrate. They are just fun, simple days that give us a reason to celebrate with good food and spirits.

Favorite medicine-based movie or show/why?
I usually don’t watch medicine-based shows or movies. I tend to critique them too much. I enjoy “Girl, Interrupted” and “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, both set in psychiatric facilities and are fascinating movies with all-star casts.

Complete this sentence about what your hospital brings to the community, or what you love about your hospital:
“My hospital…”

My hospitals give me purpose, direction and satisfaction. The staff at both facilities are family to me. They’ve helped me celebrate my children’s birthdays and other milestones with me, they’ve held my hand and cried with me through deaths of family members and life struggles. The staff at both Murphy and Rockwall are always my support system during stressful times. I love them all dearly.

The patients, their families and their stories give me motivation to continue to be empathetic. Empathy is so easy to lose in this industry, especially when you have been doing this as long as I have. Our patients touch me every day with their struggles. It makes me proud to work for a company that puts so much emphasis on patient experience and hiring the right candidates to create a fun, empathetic, loving environment that keeps our patients coming back time after time to care for them and their loved ones during their most vulnerable moments.
