Tomball Girl Scout Troops Partner with Emerus Community Hospital for First Aid

Members of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Troop #14554 in Tomball recently partnered with Emerus Community Hospital for first aid training.

HOUSTON – October 13, 2015 – Members of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Troop #14554 in Tomball recently got the inside scoop on the inner workings of their very own hometown hospital, Emerus Community Hospital, during a guided tour Friday.

“The girls are working on the Agents of Change Journey, where they learn to better themselves and their community,” said troop leader Nereida Snow. “The first aid knowledge they receive is not only a great learning tool, it gives them a chance to practice first aid with the help from medical professionals.”

The girls started their journey with a behind-the-scenes look at the hospital’s emergency room and imaging lab before making their way in to a patient room, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and get their blood pressure checked by Emerus emergency room tech DeAnne Meaux.

“My favorite part was seeing the bed in the patient room and finding out what all the stuff was used for,” said troop member Isabella Courtney.

Gloved-up and ready to work, the troop members ended the tour with a private class on proper hand washing and bandaging techniques for first aid. And what better way to practice than on stuffed teddy bears, of course.

“Here at Emerus Community Hospital, we are committed to providing patient-centered care. Events like this and our free flu shot drive are just one way we can help the children and families in our community,” said Hospital Administrator Paula Gonzales.

Emerus recently announced it will be providing more than 5,200 doses of the flu vaccine, valued at $50,000, at its micro hospitals in Tomball and Sugar Land (Houston), as well as at the locations of many of its partner hospital facilities: Baptist Emergency Hospital, Overlook and Hausman (San Antonio); BaylorScott&White Emergency Medical Center, Cedar Park (Austin); and Baylor Emergency Medical Centers, Keller, Mansfield and Colleyville (Dallas).

The flu shots will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Visitors may print out their complimentary flu shot coupon online at www.emerus.com.
